Urban Child Study Center Celebrates L&L Fellows Research Presentations
The Urban Child Study Center is proud to celebrate the poster presentations of two Language and Literacy Fellows at Georgia State University’s Center for Research on the Challenges of Acquiring Language and Literacy (RCALL) 2018 Language and Literacy Day. Graduate Fellow, Quintin Bostic (Sponsor: Dr. Gary E. Bingham) presented a poster entitled “ Technology unplugged: Fostering critical Technological literacy with children’s picture books.” Quintin’s research highlighted the need to further explore how technology should be integrated into picture books and how teachers can use these tools to encourage critical thinking. Undergraduate Fellow, In Jung Hwang (Sponsor: Dr. Nicole Patton Terry) presented a poster entitled “ Response accuracy on a depth of vocabulary measure in African American children.” In’s research demonstrated that African American preschool children scored better on the noun items that were queried with functional prompts compared to non-functional prompts and these children also provided additional thematic knowledge when providing definitions on a standardized depth of vocabulary assessment. Congratulations to both fellows on their completion of successful research projects.
