Urban Child Study Center presents at AERA
Faculty, students, and partners within the Urban Child Study Center presented on various projects at the annual conference for the American Education Research Association (AERA). AERA is a national research society dedicated to advancing knowledge and research about education to serve the public good. Along with his colleagues Dr. Margaret Quinn and Dr. Hope Gerde, Dr. Gary Bingham presented findings from a study on Who writes what when? Examining children’s early composing. Dr. Bingham also participated in a panel discussion at the Early Education and Child Development SIG business meeting, sharing insights on national research efforts in the field. Dr. Erica Edwards presented findings from her dissertation study, (Bad) girls: The school re-entry experiences of African-American girls after exclusionary discipline. Glenda Chisholm presented her paper entitled, Transformative Social Justice Teaching: Educative Experiences that foster student agency and victorious consciousness . Finally, along with our community partners at Atlanta Public Schools, Drs. Nicole Patton Terry, Kevin Fortner, and Gary Bingham participated in a symposium on research practice partnerships in early childhood education, highlighting our work supporting Atlanta’s preschool through 3rd grade early learning system in Atlanta 323.
